New policy and enforcement sets guidelines for current and future membership
NORTH ANDOVER, MASS. – April 28, 2014 (SDG MEDIAWIRE) – As part of the ongoing transition of recently acquired In Car Experts, the group announced it is employing and enforcing a zero-tolerance policy against transshipping by member retailers. The policy is designed to maintain a high-level perception of brands and products to deliver greater value to vendor and retailer partners.
“There needs to be a high standard for In Car Experts members,” said Chris Cook, who oversees In Car Experts operations. “The retailers in the group are expected to adhere to vendor guidelines so that everyone receives the benefit they expect. This policy is part of our new membership platform to assure that all of our members are truly In Car Experts.”
Transshipping is the practice of repurposing goods that are designated for sale to consumers from an authorized retailer in a specified territory, instead selling them to an unauthorized retailer, usually in a different territory. The unauthorized retailer then competes with authorized retailers in its territory that sell the same brands, resulting in price and value erosion of the product line.
The Mobile Electronics Retailers Association (MERA) announced the acquisition of In Car Experts in February, and has since been working with vendors and retailers to evaluate the current state of the business in order to plan additions and improvements.
“In evaluating the individual partnerships with vendors, we have found those that are excited about the organization’s direction, and those that have decided to move on from ICE this year with a plan to reevaluate their decisions for the following year,” said Cook. “It’s an expected adjustment and part of the business. At the same time, we are in negotiations with new vendors that are excited to come on board, and we will be announcing these new partnerships shortly.”
